Organizational Values
Friends of Muskoka Midwives (FOMM) is motivated by the belief that pregnancy is a state of health and child birth is a normal and powerful experience. We believe FOMM plays a crucial role ensuring that our community is aware of its options for maternity care, which should be woman-centred and family inclusive. We concur that the extensive knowledge and absolute respect that Midwives have for their clientele allows for this type of care; in essence, we believe that women need Midwives.
How it all started...
Friends of Muskoka Midwives was created when midwifery clients Jo-Anne McCarthy and Kailey Richter recognized a need to highlight the benefits of midwifery care, while also dispelling the myths. So, in February 2008, the first meeting was held with two members. Today, Friends of Muskoka Midwives boasts a membership of an executive board, ten decision makers, and a growing volunteer base.
Each Friends of Muskoka Midwives member was profoundly impacted by his or her experience with the midwives. We are motivated by the belief that pregnancy is a state of health and childbirth is a normal and powerful process. We hope for this experience for all expecting Muskoka families.
