GAVIN MICHAEL PHILLIP
Born June 1, 2011
Keywords: Homebirth

Picture this - 10:00pm May 31st, 3rd baby now 5 days overdue. Husband outside on warm balmy evening cutting grass drinking beer socializing with neighbours. 2 children fast asleep in bed. I waddle outside to tell him he should come in and be with me "Why?" he says "Is the baby coming?" Yes I say calmly. In he comes and says "are you serious? - Hunny, I think I'm drunk! - maybe we should close the blinds" Our plan is to have this baby at home so he starts rushing to get ready the birthing gear. "Should I call the Midwife?" he asks. Still in disbelief that this baby is actually coming I say no and continue on able to cope - for 5 minutes that is - Suddenly I realize I feel in over my head "Call the midwife now" I sat through gritted teeth.

The midwives arrive, and mere 4 hours of vicious intense hip breaking labour and I ask her to break my water - in the water (of the pool that is!). Well you can imagine that this baby is now coming - and I swear that I am dying and my wonderful midwife says "Oh My!!! This baby is looking straight at me!" Out pops the baby Sunny side up - yes that would be posterior! now am I a mother or what - 12 minutes to get that 8lb baby out in the posterior position with out so much as a paper cut! On to my tummy goes baby! Holding and loving baby dearly we decide to wait before checking gender - convinced we are having a girl (since we already have two boys) I just couldn't resist. I slide my hand under the towel holding this little bundle in place and what do I feel - Nothing but a swollen little Twig and Berries! I look up at my now VERY sober husband and sat "It has a penis!!!" We laugh we cry and we are instantly in love with our third little man.

Born June 1 - my late parents' wedding anniversary! I wouldn't trade him in for the whole wide world! Thank you to Barb, Sarah-J and their sweet student for being part of my third (and likely final) birthing experience!
