Many of us have grown up in and around the beautiful lakes and forests of Muskoka and enjoy the breathtaking beauty and health benefits that nature can bring to us. Indeed, it’s why we live here and why tens of thousands of people visit every year. There is no denying that we feel different after being on a hike, a paddle, an awesome mountain bike ride. And while these sports are a great way to exercise and enjoy nature, Nature Therapy is a little different! "Shinrin-Yoku," refers to the practice of spending time in forested areas for the purpose of enhancing health, wellness, and happiness. Inspired by the Japanese Practice, it follows the general principle that it is beneficial to spend time “bathing” in the atmosphere of the forest.
Forest Bathing is spending time in nature in a way that invites healing interactions. It is quite slow, silent and does not cover a lot of territory so anyone at any level of health can benefit from a Nature Therapy session. The practice has been proven to reduce stress hormone production, improve feelings of happiness and free up creativity, as well as lower heart rate and blood pressure, boost the immune system and accelerate recovery from illness. Forest Bathing also can deepen our connection with the environment around us, enhancing our awareness and relationship with “the more than human world”. There are an infinite number of healing activities that can be incorporated into a walk in a forest or any other natural area. An activity is likely to be healing when it makes room for listening, for quiet and accepting presence, and for inquiry through all eight of the sensory modes we possess. Join me for an interactive workshop that will introduce you to the Shinrin-Yoku practice and surely calm your mind and soul!

Inhale. Inhale a little more. Take just one last sip of air to fill you to the brim. Exhale deeply. Lets choose to use 50 minutes of our day to remember the magic of your exhale. As you sit into a collection of restorative poses, give yourself permission to exhale. Give yourself permission to be fully engulfed by the sensations of your body as your muscles slowly soften. Give yourself permission to arrive in this space, on your mat, in this body to breath and restore your magic through the beauty of your exhale.
